Bula Quo - Doris with Status Quo in Fiji: Rick passes driving test but current 'last shows' are too soon, no more 'Status Quo'.
Rick passes driving test but current 'last shows' are too soon, no more 'Status Quo'.
Inside story
from Shades Of Bad and Doris TV
It is now
now well covered that Rick Parfitt died and it was for quite a few minutes, so the recovery he has made has been amazing as he has managed the times before when he gave himself a target and time limit. Twelve weeks after his first multi heart replacement he gave himself twelve weeks to be playing live on stage and he was the inspiration that made me (Stuart, director of film) set a target for my double knee replacement. I set the same target as Rick, twelve weeks. To snow ski in twelve weeks. I did it, was skiing twelve weeks to the day.
When Rick says he won't be back in any of the scheduled Quo electric gigs he knows he can't make the time, as they are imminent and Francis says the very last is the 23rd December in Liverpool. Is the stadium big enough we ask?
Francis has wanted to stop for years, the film re-energised the band and brought a new album of new material they thought they would never do again; Bula Quo. Some of their best songs are on it, though that is a matter of taste and we can't argue with those who prefer the older material. There are more important things to war about than song choice.
However, the whole re-visiting of the character Caroline is very clever, and the title song Bula Bula Quo is a master class in rock pop with Hawaiian influence. Rick's heart is that of a rocker and he would rather play electric than acoustic, he also wants to act more. So does Francis.
Parfitt confirmed that to
Classic Rock magazine, ""In my heart I'm a rocker, I've always been. If I'm going to make music it's got to rock," he explains. "There would probably have been room for me if I decided I wanted to (return), but I'm not a great fan of the whole acoustic malarkey. It doesn't float my boat. What I am disappointed in is missing the last of the band's electric shows."
Rick has also wished the 'new line up' luck and insists he won't have a problem with the band if Rossi and company decide to play a few more electric shows after this current tour. "Let them do whatever they want to do," he declares to Classic Rock. "It'll be with my blessing. However, if the second film goes that may well tempt him back to play but the scheduling will have to be different. Rick declared that he had never worked so hard in his life with the standard twelve+ hour days for four weeks, and he certainly won't be asked to do that again. So, we know, the script needs to be changed.
Amazingly, Rick has only just passed his driving test and acquired a license which was a stress test. "I can't complain. I've just passed my driving test - which was incredibly stressful at my age - but I'm mobile again now, so that's a big difference."
What will be next. The film project now sits waiting as it has done before and it is all about the calendar. Francis is busy with
Acoustic, Rick is recovering, Doris has the travel show with six cruises booked, and Caroline would need to work out how to carry on her weekly voice overs for Currys and PC World - That is just a few of the problems.
